ISSUE FIVE
ISSUE FIVE
The fifth issue of the Hope Valley Journal! This issue reflects on lockdown in the valley but, more importantly, celebrates the amazing landscape offering joy to so many. Author Helen Jukes finds hope in the time of Covid in the Edale Valley, while acclaimed naturalist Mark Cocker comes home to Derbyshire and finds the hills in lockdown are alive with the birdsong of his childhood. Our featured landscape photographer Sam Walker imbues the valley with the spirit of adventure and post-Covid possibility and poet and author Helen Mort muses on her changing attitude to solitude as she and her little boy Alfie explore an empty Stanage Edge. And there’s so much more. From vineyards to vultures, Mam Tor to mushrooms, contours to campsites and painters to poets, there’s plenty to distract from the uncertain world outside the window.
